As consumers we have literally reached saturation point. In a world where every purchase must be considered and every move is monitored, true happiness and well-being … are even appealing to economists who are busy seeking a more satisfactory measure than money (Viewpoint). Add to this the natural catastrophes and political revolutions that have had a strong impact on recent events and it is apparent that we are striving for a clearer, more positive vision of life. Indeed, with levels of depression and isolation rising (tracked by governments the world over), people are seeking comfort in communities, expression in festivity, solace in dreams and passion in romance – the simple joys of life.
And so the circle turns: one thing becomes clear, people are seeking more meaning, more deeply felt connections and more substance in life (Viewpoint). We search out memories, feeling the need to refocus on history, culture, country and ancestors. We long for commitment, loyalty, honesty … we wish to connect, to celebrate and embrace each other once again.
